ChristopherChristopher is a Chartered Accountant who concentrates his professional interests on charitable not-for-profit organizations with an emphasis on Gift Planning.  He consults across Canada on various gift planning, compliance and related not-for-profit matters such as financial statements, governance and Board matters and forensic matters such as CRA-CD audits.  He was the Co-Chair of the Charitable Incentives Review Task Force of the Voluntary Sector Roundtable (1996 – 1998) which met with senior staff of the Department of Finance in Ottawa   He was a founding Board member of the Canadian Association of Gift Planners (CAGP<>ACPDP) 1991-1995 and was awarded a ‘Friend of CAGP<>ACPCP’ award in April 2008 and the citation concluded that Christopher “has been and will continue to be a leader in gift planning in Canada”.  Christopher currently serves a number of local community charity Boards as a Board member / Trustee and Treasurer.  He has been a frequent speaker and presenter on these topics.  Recent papers included Donor Advised Funds (DAFs) – where are we today [and where may we be tomorrow] at the CAGP annual conference in Vancouver in April 2008, Not-for-Profit Governance – New Thinking a co-presentation for the Institute Chartered Accountants of BC in May 2008 and in June 2007, he presented at the International Symposium on Chinese Charity Legislation hosted by the Ministry of Civil Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in Beijing.  He attended the Governance Essentials Program for Directors of Not-for-Profit Organizations presented by the Institute of Corporate Directors presented May 2007.  In 1996, he was awarded a Fellowship designation (FCA) by the ICABC for his service to the community and the Institute.  He has served as a Special Constable with the Vancouver Police Department Reserve Program 1973 to 2002 and the Traffic Authority Program 1999 to the present.  He has been elected three times ( 1986 to 1988, 1988 to 1990 & 1999 to 2002 ) as a Commissioner with the Vancouver Park Board and is currently a candidate with the NPA Team for Park Board in the November 15th, 2008 election. He is married to a registered nurse and has two sons (21 and 15).  He is an avid walker, is presently studying Mandarin and has a passion for Vancouver and a particular and passionate interest in the downtown eastside (dtes).
